have 05 f-250 6.0 recently have problem of alot of white smoke out of exhaust. quite embarrasing going through town. fluid levels are good and truck runs and starts fine. could this be a fuel or head gasket issue. any help would be great. also has no engine codes
First off welcome to FTE lots of good people and info around here
If you are getting white smoke alot(more than just at start up when cold) or all the time then it is probably a head gasket. Watch the coolant level so it doesn't get to low.
If you only have white smoke at cold start up then this is normal.
Also how many miles are on your truck? Do you run a tuner?
Some of the techs will be along shortly with more answers.
there is about 37k on truck and it is bone stock. the degree of smoke is as follows. if going down road at speed the cloud of smoke hangs on both sides of road for about a mile. it seems when truck warms up smoke is not as bad but still present. my local dealer says its from the new low sulfur fuel. i dont think this is the case.

What color is the smoke?
This is not very scientific, but it works to help isolate/eliminate one possible problem.
Hold your hand over the exhaust (no, don't touch the pipe =o) while the truck is running.
Allow some condensation to form on your hand.
just tried your trick and now when i start truck there is no smoke at all. if it was head gasket related wouldnt that problem be all the time? now it seems to be intermittent and no smell of coolant

i can tell you that the smoke can occur at idle up to all rpms. it seems to be worse when you try to pass hence higher rpms or when truck is warm and at stop light it will smoke at idle. but yes weird because it can seem to be a 50/50 shot at startup wether it will smoke or not. oil is good and clean no milkiness and coolant looks normal, i just dont know
Sounds like a head gasket. I would find a new dealer with a Qualified and Certified 6.0 diesel tech. Key word here is Qualified tech. The dealership and tech you have taken it to are just guessing and ULSD will Not cause white smoke anymore than any other diesel fuel.

i just found a tsb on the truck and it says 1 thing to check is there is a spool valve in the fuel pump that could hang up causing either black or white smoke. i put some fuel conditioner in it so i will see tonite if that helps. thanks to all for the ideas and help, im glad i joined this forum

If it is TSB 06-2-13,
"Some vehicles equipped with a 6.0L DI engine may experience white smoke, lacks power, exhaust odor, surges, runs rough, or no start. These conditions are caused by the injector spool valve sticking internally when cold. The concern is typically evident following a cold start and may last 3-5 minutes or longer as the vehicle warms up"
This only effects the vehicle while cold and i believe you stated in your first post or two that it was occurring when the truck was warm also. So it might be this but i am still leaning toward a bad head gasket.
Either way find a good Qualified and Certified 6.0 tech and let them diagnose and fix the problem.
Vic that is possible, but with his explination of white smoke hanging on both side of the road for over a mile, that would take alot of water, and truck should be running pretty bad with that much water in the fuel, especially if it is getting past the water block fabric in the primary fuel filter. Also he showed have a WIF light coming on on the dash with this much water.
Anything is possible but i am thinking it is more serious than a bad load of fuel.
