You might be surprised on the turkey farms... probably more than you realize. Not much here for the day, inlaws have theirs tomorrow, and my sister is coming in from Germany Saturday, so my family is held off too.
Turkey producers are located in the northwest, northeast, central and southeast parts of Iowa. A typical turkey farm in Iowa raises 50,000 turkeys every year. In 2004, Iowa ranked 10th in turkey production with 9.0 million birds. There are approximately 125 turkey growers in Iowa and 3 plants that process turkeys. The processing plants are Bil-Mar Foods in Storm Lake, Iowa Turkey Products in Postville and West Liberty Foods in West Liberty. Iowa's turkey processors process over 11 million birds annually.

22 people at my house , i wont even attempt to count the kids. I only own 5 chairs for the table. Big Time Whine and Moan there, Half wouldnt eat turkey ( Had 2 LARGE BIRDS) 90 % wouldnt eat stuffing. Kids running everywhere. Didnt see 1 min of football cause cartoons was on the TV. Finally chased the last ones out around 6pm. Every dish, cup, plate ,pan, knife and fork were dirty, not one lifted a finger to help clean up. Still finding food in places food doesnt belong. My fridge is full of leftovers and the wife was mad that i wanted something else for dinner besides that. My house is a mess and my yard is full of tire marks. Was this a happy Thanksgiving ? Only thing i am happy about is that it is over and never happening again. Not one person arrived in a ford Truck or Car, what a disgrace...

My parents have our families Thanksgiving sometime in October. It got pushed back from scheduling conflicts between everyone and has become tradition because it's so much less of a hassle. It's also a hot dog roast/ pot-luck instead of turkey and all. Everyone is outside instead of 30+ stuffed in a house trashing it. Don't have to deal with 2 family get togethers back to back either.
