Intercoolers.. 2001 ? Rods. EGT at Downpipe.

What are some of the better brands to look into getting. Just looked at Banks and they want $1,500... is it worth it? Are they difficult to remove and replace, just plastic front end parts?

What rods should I have? Just wondering because everyone else talks about them. 2001 dually auto.... Can't remember build date off the top of my head.

I put my pyro probe in my exhaust downpipe (I know not a good as pre turbo in manifold but...) Runs around 400-500 in town and around 625 on highway 65-70mph. Is that ok.. Is 800 about as high as I should go safely?

Also trans temps, I have a bully dog shift enhancer and mag hytech pan. Runs around 130, is that good?
Great Thanks

I've heard banks are good, but there are a couple of other company's with intercooler that others can chime in on with experience.

Pyro in down pipe you should be alright to 900 degrees loaded. You can push 1000 but I would not hold over that long.

130 on trans temp ain't bad for the time of year. Mine run about the same now but summertime and hot weather as long as they stay under 190 you fine.

Intercoolers, you can get a stock 6.0 IC from ebay for $150ish, and it will lower temps 100-150* while towing. All out, get a Spearco (backordered) for about $1300. Banks intercooler is good stuff, but you're right it's expensive like all the rest of their stuff.

Rods, hopefully you have forged rods. The thought production date was 10-16-00 when they changed over, however a few guys before that date have PMR rods too. Best bet is to check, just remove a plug in the block and bar the engine around till a rod is present in the viewing hole. There is a writeup on DieselInnovations.

Those exhaust temps sound around right, you want to stay under 900* or so post-turbo... let it cool to 350-400* before shutting down..

The rule of thumb for automatic tranny temps, is 80-90* above ambient is a good temp to be running.

I've looked at a few of the 6.0 intercoolers, do like the price.... Should it fit right in place, no chopping or cutting required.

I can say from experience that the Spearco CAC is great...got mine for $1200. Worth every penny!!!!!!!!!! Diesel Innovations has a great CAC as well for around the same price. Just remember that the most gains you will see from a larger CAC will be experienced during towing or at WOT.

Check the tag on the driverside valve cover it has the engine build date. That is the date to go by for Forged / PMRs

Diesel Innovations has a great CAC as well
The holiday prices just came out, and they are clearing them out for just over $1000.

Yep. You will have to play with the hose connections.

Diesel Innovations Intercooler (the big DIIC) has my vote, glad I bought it! Dropped EGT's abot 200 when towing and no EGT problems when getting the most out of Tony Wildman's programs....

Don't sweat it with the PMRs. I have an 01 with a build date of Sep of 00 and it has PMRs. They are good for up to 400 horses and we don't know about beyond that. 400 ponies is kicking with these trucks especially with the torque that will come with those kind of HP numbers. After that, ya gotta pay to play whether you have PMRs or forged. Everyone will have to pay the piper from there.
