360 Engine Hesitation
My mechanic, who tends to be a bit creative (but who, in fairness, seems to know his stuff) installed an electric choke on my 71 F-250 (360 engine). (I didn't ask him to do that; as I said, he's creative.) Ever since then, the engine hesitates when I try to move from a standing start. To avoid that problem, I have to rev the engine before letting out the clutch. I asked my mechanic about the problem, and he said that it would go away "in time." Well, it hasn't gone away, and several months have passed. In another place on this forum, I read that engine hesitation may be solved by either 1) advancing the timing, or 2) adjusting the carb. accelerator pump.
I will appreciate any comments/counsel you may have.

Paul, You need to keep one eye open for these creative guys. Sometimes they are just full of it and are blowing smoke up your skirt. They fix a lot of things but often there is a hole in it somewhere.
When I was reading your post I was thinking pump, but there are others here that are better versed on carbs than can give you solid advice.

did he adjust your idle lower when he changed it over?? i would check your timing. or see if he knocked a hole in a vac line? does stumble without a load or only from a stop? have you popped the hood and eyeballed everything looked it over good to make sure there isnt something unhooked? not sure what part of the country you live in but have you tried unhooking a wire to the choke and see if that chages the performance? could be he set it up wrong when installing it.
