The 460 in my truck has some worn out valve guides, I get the huge puff of smoke when it starts. I think I have a bad lifter as well. I just noticed a guy at work selling a set of 460 heads off a low mileage 77 Lincoln for $40. I will call and see what he means by low mileage, but would these heads fit the 460 in my 85 F-250? I would much rather spend $40 on heads, get some new gaskets, lifters, and do the work myself. I can't really afford to get my current heads rebuilt. My motor only has 120k original miles, and the oil pressure is still like new so I am not worried about the bottom end right now.

 

It would be easier to just replace the valve seals. It can be done without removing the heads.

Answer to your question though is yes those heads will fit, they should be basically identical. the 85 heads may even have the same D3VE casting number, or they could be E5 casting number but still the same thing. it's a direct bolt on swap no issues.
