2001 F250 7.3 for 20k?

I talked to this guy selling a 01 F250 4wd crew cab PSD with an 8" lift, exhaust, intake already all done to it for 20k. 103k on it. I spoke with the guy on the phone for a bit and he sounds honest.. Said he bought the truck, but wanted a F350 dually and got a sweet deal on one and his wife says he's got to many cars and he has to get rid of the F250..

I did a carfax on it and it came back clean.. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow (monday the 13th) unless I am told a good enough reason not to.

I'm a pretty savy person mechanical wise.. Just have never owned a diesel before.. 103k should be nothing for these motors..

Any tips on what I should look for over the normal stuff while looking at used vehicles?

Thanx..

Sounds fair to me , I got a screamin deal two years ago on the same truck basically for just a little more so your not doing to bad. Im sure that lift & tires were pricy if done correctly so I would say drive it, take note of anything odd you may expirence and if you feel something is not right let everone here know and they can answer all questions. Good luck.

This is exactly how the ad is placed.

2001 FORD F250 SUPERDUTY, diesel,8" lift,2 chips,pillar gauges,exhaust,bed liner,air intake,tranny pan,37" ProComp,$10K in extras,hauls butt, must see, $20,800 OBO,

The tranny pan has been switched to the deep style..

He agreed to 20k over the phone.. I called and left a message on the phone this morning if he would take 19k.. I'll still take it for 20k.

104k is nothing for these motors right? I used to do suspension lifts so I know what to look for with that stuff.. Just never owned a deisel.. don't know what to look for with that stuff..

Now, it was a Ford brochure (and was 2-3 years ago), but it stated that 90% of the 7.3L PSD's under 250,000 miles had not even had their valve covers removed.

103k is nothing on the engine if it was well cared for.

Well I picked it up!

Holy jesus it hauls *****..

Clean interior.. good exterior for a 5 year old truck.. couple litte scratches, but nothing bad..

Draw backs.. there are 3 pods in the a-pillar.. Trans temp, manifold preasure, and something else.. Seems like none of them work.. I'll have to look into that..

Also there are 2 switches on the dash.. He said 1 is for when you are towing you're supposed to flip the switch.. Also the other one is if you have it turned on and you shut off the truck it keeps it running for a few then shuts it off.. He called it a turbo saver.. (I've always heard them called a turbo timer and have delt with them with my import cars) But they weren't just a switch..

Anyhow.. So now I'm the proud owner of my first PSD.. I'll have to post pics soon..

Nice rig. Don't know for sure what the tow switch is for but the turbo lifesaver is so you can just get out immediately after driving without worrying about coking the turbo. If it hauls the bacon like you said, you may want to check for a chip or programmer. May have something to do with the tow switch. You need to know what you have. 100k is nothing for these engines as long as they have been cared for. Good luck.

If the second switch is a toggle switch it may be Torque converter loc up/exhaust brake switch. Look on ebay under exhaust brakes or on this forum. I think one or the companys in SP diesel but I'm not sure. Look on my siganture I have one. Try driving and flip it in one position and see if when you let off the accelerator you have back pressure like a gasser. You have to be above 35 mph or so for it to work. If that's what it is one direction will activate the exhaust brake by closing an exhaust butterfly valve when you let of the accelerator. The other direction plus lock the TC. You can find lots of articles on here about it. just my best guess.
