1959 padded dash?

Hi,
I know that the "Instrument panel cover assembly" (padded dash) was an option on the 1959 F-series, but I'm just curious. Have any of you actually ever seen one?

1959 padded dash?

Cool! Seems like it must have been the rarest of options.

1959 padded dash?

So does anyone have a picture?

Was it shown in the Ford sales literature?

It was listed as a "Regular production option", under the description: "Safety package "A", padded instrument panel and cushioned sun visors".

Part number: B9C 8104290-A01 - Black

This is the only picture of one I could find.........

Kenny that is cool!

Now you have given me another question. What kind of dash (instrument panel) is that in the illustration? There are three large round holes. I'm seeing a tach, speedo, and vacuum guage. Of course I'm guessing since you can't see anything. So what goes in all those holes.

That dash would be for a big Ford truck. The two additional gauges are air pressure and mechanical tach. Those instrument panels were used after 1960 on some big Fords (maybe the cabover style). Some truck instrument panels had little gauges where the idiot lights were(generator and oil pressure IIRC).

Angus is right.
They were also used on cabovers. You might be able to see better in this picture..........

Tach on the left, Air pressure on the right.
Hope this helps.

1959 padded dash?

There was a man with a 59 longbed at the all-Ford show in Carlisle, PA last weekend that had a totally restored truck that came with the padded dash. He had retained the chrome trim that held it down, but had not re-padded the dash. He had literature showing it as an option. It was one of the nicest restorations I have seen to date! He had re-padded the visors.

Hi,
Sorry, I don't have an actual picture, just the one from the trim and sealant manual. I've never seen one myself, and I'm not sure where you would find one to add to your truck. These were an option, but seem to have been rarely ordered. No one is re-producing them for our years. If you do get lucky enough to find one in a salvage yard, I'd hate to guess what kind of shape it would be in after 42 years. Maybe you'll get lucky though. Good luck!
