Diesel from coal.

I picked up a copy of Diesel Power last night and read an article about coal gasification. Sounded interesting, but they didn't talk about the process at all.

You should be able to get some info off the net, they were doing a small amount of that back in WW2.

I also know several groups here in WV are pushing to get a project off the ground since we have so much coal here.

I have been meaning to search out some info, but I have not alloted time for it yet.

It's called the Fisher-tropsch method, and has been around since the Twenties. Hitler used it to fuel the Luftwaffa during WW-II.

For more info try here: http://www.ultracleanfuels.com/articles/patriot-news_080405.htm

or here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fischer-Tropsch_process

or here: http://www.inl.gov/scienceandtechnology/alternativefuels/

For more just google Fisher-tropsch for about 18,000 more hits!

Even more promising and environmentally friendly is Diesel made from methane. We have a proven 200 year supply of gas and find more almost daily.

The tech sector reported last year that the waste coal in the east will be converted to diesel within the next few years. I think they are supposed to be up in Va and Ky somtime next year. The investors predictions for barrels of oil is to go to a 3 year low but fuel pricing will stay up because demand and the inability for refineries to keep up.
