Hello, I just signed up for this forum because I am thinking about getting a new Ford Truck. I currently own a 2000 F350 Supercab with the V10. I have owned it since new and it has been a great truck. The only thing I have had to do in seven years is the brakes.
Well, now I have two small children and am thinking about getting a Crew Cab truck. I am just not sure if I should go with a 2007, or wait and get a 2008. One thing I heard is that the older motors require a fuel additive with the new Diesel fuel. Is this true? I saw a 2008 at the at show this weekend and really liked it. But it sounds like I won't be able to get one until Feb or March at the earliest. Another question, what kind of deals are people getting? There is one at a local dealership for $42000.00. It's a lariat. The one catch is that it was repaired by Ford. I guess it showed up damaged and was sent back for repair. Should I stay away from a truck like that?
Also, what mileage are you guys seeing with the diesel? I average 11 mpg with the V10.

to be honest if it is going to sit in the yard you dont need to get a diesel. these trucks like to driven hard on a regular basis to keep the carbon out, and given certain climates the turbos can rust causing unhappy owners syndrome. now on the other hand if you can drive it and flog it occasionnaly then go for it, if not stay with a gasser.
when a truck has been reparied by ford, that means that the previous owner had so many issues ford bought the truck back and settled with the owner. the only thing bout a oasis report is that whatever work fomoco does might not show up in the report. however i dont think you should have problems with the buyback.

Thanks for the responses. I am leaning towards going with a 2007 or earlier truck. I plan to drive the truck daily and occasionally I pull a 23 ft boat. So mostly it's a daily driver and a big toy. I will probably mod it some and may take it to the drags occasionally. Just for some fun.
So do the 6.0's need any additives with the new ULSD fuels?

I would go for the Diesel,Fun to drive and better fuel milage. You can get a good prce on 06 or 07. As far as 08's go no one knows for sure what the prices are going to be or reliability of the new Diesel.

As for the ULSD, I think you need to add Diesel Kleen to every tank. the process to make the ULSD removes much of the lubricity out of the fuel that the injectors need. The Diesel Kleen isn't that expensive to add for the protection anyway. If memory serves me right, it's like $7 or $8 for a bottle that'll treat 6 or 7 tanks.

6L PWR ... that is one nice truck you have there!
F350SD ... I just recently bought a new '06 6.0 F250 FX4, my first 4 wheel drive but my third brand new diesel truck ('96 Dodge/Cummins, '02 Ford 7.3) and I'll never have anything but a diesel. I've put a lot of miles on 'em and the dang things are just so darn reliable ... something like 415,000 miles since '96 with nary a problem on the engines towing all sorts of things.
I still get a kick out of driving them and one of these days I'm gonna stick to my guns and do a little aftermarket trickery to make 'em even more fun. I personally believe if you ever switched over to the diesel you'll really like it and never look back ... oh and BTW, I'll never own anything but a crew cab either!
I just hope my new 6.0 PSD is going to give me the same service that my 5.9 Cummins and my 7.3 PSD did!
