225-55-R16 on 2004 Mustang Rims: Will they fit Aerostar?
I found a set of wheels and tires on ebay not 3 miles from my house. I am worried about backspacing and offset and such. First my wheels now arent factory, so I dont really have any way of seeing how things look "stock."
From what I can gather on the net, the aero's 14" stock wheels are around 3 inch backspace and -6mm offset or so. The mustang wheels are wider and the offset is around +40mm, I think they will fit but I dont know for sure. HELP?
Anybody running something similar?

Anyone?

I think the stock Aero wheels are 6" wide, and I'll guess that the 2004 16" Mustang wheels are 7" wide. If the offsets of both were the same, that's adding only 1/2" of width to each side. But it sounds like the Mustang wheel is going to be stuck outward by almost 2", if it really has 40 mm offset. Add the wide profile tires, and you are bound to get some tire to fender lip contact.

My numbers could be wrong. I was poking around on the american racing wheel site and I guestimated the numbers based on replacement wheels that were listed for both vehicles. I also used an offset calculator on tirerack.com to try and determine... but without actual specs or somebody trying this for themselves I am unsure. I thought I read a thread that had an aero owner with mustang 16's from a 1994 but I don't know if the mustang rims have changed at all in ten years.
Maybe I should ask if anyone knows a site that might have all this info, like a Wheel store would have in a catalog...

Sweet rims BTW, but I don't know if 55's are good for load carrying which I do more of.

I was hoping to get some more suitable tire on my "new" wheels, but I can't complain for 4 wheels and new tires... who knows maybe they will be adequate. The guy I bought the van from had 205 75 14 tires. the front set alone has o be at max pressure to just barely cover the load of the van itself.

Hello
I am the fellow who was running the 94 Mustang 16x7 factory alloys with 225/55/16 tires, they did fit and only rubbed on some hard turns, in the rear wheel wells. I have tried a newer 98 Mustang 15x7 which bolt up fine yet there is not enough room, due to wheel offset, to put the hubcaps on in the front. So if you use spacers 1.5" you can get the hubcaps on the front and then the wheel fender wheel becomes an issue. So back to the 94's with there deeper room for the front wheel bearing grease cap, I will see if I can find some 15" mustang wheels and if not I will go back to the 16". Better load carrying capacity with the 15's and the tires are less expensive about $100-200 for a set of four.
I also just upgraded my shocks, KYB huge improvement.
I also put on drilled rotors $120 for the pair and Raybestos Pro grade Ceramic brake pads (front) huge difference, what was surprising is that the pads and rotors a few months before and they were fine on the front side that we could see yet when we got them apart the rotors and pads on the inside (both sides of the car) were scary. So I replaced the front brakes with the brake lines, calipers, wheel bearings, seals and pads. What a big difference.
I also went to Napa and bought new front sway bar bushings (kit) Polyurethane about $16 total for both sides. Should have gone to a shop as cutting the OEM bushings was a beast as I used a sawzall. This to made a very nice change. Yes, I did the rear shocks at the same time as the front shocks.
BTW I replaced the O2 sensors, they were working fine no CEL codes and this made a nice change in idle as well as acceleration. They looked pretty good just a bit tan, like a good running spark plug electrode. I replaced mine with OEM Bosch units, 1 for the front and one for the rear. Got a great deal @ Amazon.com on these as well as Turn Signal side light housings. I find a lot of great auto parts deals there, sometimes 1/2 of what NAPA charges for the same parts.
What is next I am going to see about installing a Helliwig rear sway bar.
