other ways to get rid of rust

Swanny, Have you heard of POR - Paint Over Rust? It is a coating that has Phosphoric Acid, a chemical that combines with rust (Iron Oxide, of course) to make a stable coating. The dirctions usually require that there be a layer of rust to paint over. You knock the loose rust and scale off and then paint the POR over it. If you're building a driver, I'd recommend something like this.

other ways to get rid of rust

I've gotten stuff like this at the auto paint store, Home Depot, and Lowe's. POR is just one brand. There are several others like it.

other ways to get rid of rust

Scr8pin_f100

Hey, I would not recommend grinding your frame with a grinding wheel.. you can clean it up a little with a wire wheel but it takes FOREVER!!!

other ways to get rid of rust

Grinding is a long proses.you cant get a grinder into corners, and a grinder will take off a lot of metal. a wire brush will take forever, and like grinding it wont get into the deep rust pockets or corners.the rust coatings that you put on rust to change it to ??? has never worked for me. your best way is sandblast,it digs out the rust and takes very little metal off.Iv been a body man/painter 20 some years and tryed them all.Iv resentlly found a rubberized metal coating that stops rust fron coming back, but no one knows about it or uses it.I have a sandblast shop so thats how I know about what works and what like most things dont.even sandblast can blow water on in the air and cause rust. so get a good coating on soon after sandblasting.Larry
