IDI power tricks.... Post up!

I have a few on mine, currently non turbo, but larger exhaust and intake helped, and the next project is to get the opening into the grille done. Fuel screw is turned up some, messed around with the timing, but kind of wishing I hadn't as I can't seem to get it right where I want, smokes a light haze more easily than I like... maybe I can score a good used turbo one of these days when I actually can afford it... someday...

Gotta go scavenger hunting in the junkyards, ya' never know when you'll find gold. Turbo rebuild kits are cheap.

Can you actualy measure the timing on an IDI? If you can you'll find your best power around 4* ATDC....especially with some compressed air going in

I had been hear ing 8 degrees... I don't have the equipment to time them, but it can be done... luminosity probes. I see used turbo setups for 800 or so, just gotta have that much to let go of...

The 4* ATDC or a little faster is for the liminosity probe method used on the 6.9.
The 8.5* BTDC is for the pulse method used on the 7.3 engines.

The pulse method is set according to the fuel pulse on the way to the injector.
The luminosity method is set by when the fuel actually starts to burn in the precombustion chamber.
Both methods end up at about the same place in the end.
The difference is what equipment is used and what that equipment is looking for to detect the cylinder firing.

Do you have an idea of an average price for a rebuild kit?
