Any CA smog techs out there?
I had an idea. First off, I live in Orange County which is an enhanced emissions test county. That being said, theoretically of course, what would stop me from getting a PO box in an area that only requires change of ownership tests and register the truck with that address and never need to smog it again. Am I oversimplifying things or can this work??

As I understand it,
Yes, you must provide a physical address and some proof of residency, like for instance a utility bill?. It all depends on the year of your truck I know that in California regardless of county all vehicles 74 and older are exempt. Not sure on the actual cut off year any more cuz it was supposed to go back to being prgressive but I dont kow if that happened. All others are a bi-annual thing.

I don't think that it is an excemption. I think they just don't require a smog check for <75 vehicles. If an envirwacko was elected to replace the governator, I think the law could then be enforced to make <75 vehicles comply with smog laws. Thus, we pre75 owners are technically NOT off the hook. Just keeping our fingures crossed that we can continue to drive our trucks without expensive repairs to the primative smog stuff that made those old trucks run so terrible. The later smog equipment worked better than the stuff in the mid 70's.
For the original question, I think that a false address could become very costly if caught using it. Their pretty serious about that stuff these days. Besides, that's just another one of those fingures crossed situations. Eventually, that too will probably change with all of the new developement going on up here in the North.
