Hello everyone. I am a new member and this is my first post. I have a 1999 Ranger with a 3.0 V6. The temperature gauge needle is sitting below C and does not move even when the truck is warmed up. So far I have strapped the wire from the coolant temperature sender to ground and turned the ignition switch to on. The needle on the gauge pinned proving I am getting power to the gauge. At that point I figured it was a defective coolant temperature sender and replaced it. The gauge still did not work. Can anyone steer me in the direction of what my next steps should be to correct this problem? Thank you.
I like the idea of a t-stat, too, but first a question: does your heat work?
If it doesn't, your problem is that the coolant isn't getting up to temp, and the t-stat is the most likely culprit. If it works properly, though, you've got something else wrong.
I was having the same thing with my '99 Ranger 4.0 L .......... I replaced the thermostat with a Motorcraft thermostat & now I have HOT heat & the gauge stays up where it should.... The old one was stuck 1/2 open....
