I have a 66 with either a 390 or a 352 4bbl. It has a 3 speed tranie on the column. Here is my problem if the battery is close to dying( i know i have a draw some where, and that is something else) and i crank on it, the last crank it seems like it will hang and the starter will keep turning the motor over with the key off. What is the problem? it will not always do it, and if the battery is up it does not seem to do it. I need to cables but should i count on anything else why I am at it? is it a sign the starter is going? is it the sylonold or something else? Thanks
it did it this weekend and once before. I put another battery in her and she fired right up, no problems. I will pick up a sylnod and new cables sometime. thanks and anything else?
Make sure the solenoid mounting point is clean, that is the ground point for it. Also check your battery ground cable to the engine and engine to firewall(normally rear of intake to firewall), ground issues can cause strange problems. I think the solenoid is bad, but while you are near would be a good time to check the grounding locations.
