Add another to that list. I spent the last year and a half dealing with wiper that didn't turn off most of the time. Tested the multifunction switch a week ago and it was good leaving to believe my motor was bad. 5 minutes of my time and it's fixed. Thanks.

works great

Well my e-350 7.3 non-turbo was up for inspection, so I couldn't put it off any longer. I took it apart cleaned up the turntable looking thing, with brake cleaner, bent the contact point down and bingo, works like new.
My contact points were dirty (1 was melted off, but they are the same as contact point on tattoo machines, something I'm very familiar with) there was a gray grease on the surface of the drum.
Thanks a million for this tip, I'm sure I would have just gone and replaced the wiper motor without your excellent knowledge post!

Reviving this old thread once again to ask a question.... It seems most all of the participants in this thread have 9th gen trucks - I'm wondering if the same part is used on the 8th gen ('87 - '91) trucks, and thus everything covered here would apply to the earlier trucks as well.

I cant say for sure, (go look aint that much trouble, at most a few screws like the cowling on my van) but knowing Ford with the aint broke dont change it mentality, I'd almost bet on it. You know like the same PS pump on a mustang as on a 7.3 Turbo diesel.

Does this method have any chance of fixing wipers that won't work at all, and a washer that won't work at all?

The only response I get is clicking when I push the washer button in, and clicking when on the higher speed wiper settings..

I've been taking apart and testing the Wiper Control Module all day and at a loss.

Sure would be nice to get this fixed. Dang April showers making me drive with my head out the window.

Can't "go look" at what I don't have! I have a '91. I know the wiper controls changed starting with the 9th gen in '92. I'm asking if the motor (alone) stayed the same. i.e. Is a wiper motor from a '94 (for example) the same as what's in my '91?

You could look them both up online at somewhere like RockAuto Parts Catalog and see if they are the same part number....

Same number=same thing, different number=something different....

another satisfied customer here ... wish i had taken pics, but once you get that plastic cover off it all becomes pretty straight-forward.

in my case there was quite a bit of grease where it shouldn't have been, and the brass contact plate (or turntable, as someone put it) wasn't sitting securely on the nubs that hold it in place.

cleaned grease, re-greased the worm shaft, pushed the contact plate back into place, bent the contacts a bit and put it back together. problem solved. life is better with properly functioning wipers.

I ended up cleaning mine before I saw this, I have the 87-91 intermittent system, which is known for having issues with the governor box. after checking the solder joints in the box (known to crack) and replacing the motor, cleaning the contacts, still had a problem, apparently the switch shaft developed enough play to cause intermittent wiper movement ( the wiper wouldn't move at all and wouldn't park). 10 minutes and $60 later I have a 100% function wiper system.

Right on!

Thanks, buddy. Great fix on my 93. Ended up one of the contacts was broken, so I took one off a 90 parts truck I have in the yard, shined it up and it worked fine.

Btw, I've been getting so much good info off if this site today I figured I had to become part of this community just to finally say thanks!
