4.2L V-6 2000 F-150 This Motor Any Good?
I have a chance to buy a F-150 XLT 2000 model truck SWB that has about 125k miles on it. It was serviced every 3k miles. Dont know price but it should be cheap. It is 4wd and manual 5 spd . I talked to a mechanic friend and he said these motors are junk. I talked to anothe friend and he said some were OK. I was also told it is a gas hogg. I realize it probably won't be real good but what can I expect. Also are there different versions of this engine? I hate to retire my Bronco II but I give up on the A4LD .....I hate it..........George

Nothing wrong with the 4.2 V6 I had one in my 99. Pre 1999 had a problem with intake gaskets that leaked and if not caught soon enough it took out the bottom end. If it has had regular coolent services I see no need to worry. My 99 was a supercab 4x2 with the 3.08 and 5speed, power was fine and so was mpg 16 city and 20 highway. If it has over size tires though it will be bogged down.
