Exclamation Trials and tribulations of new doors on an old truck.

I finally managed to mount one of the 95 doors on my 85. I had originally planned to unbolt the doors from the hinges that way I wouldn't have to realign, but my hinge bushings were toast so I used the 95 hinges as well. After installing and removing the door 5 times trying to align, I gave up and pulled the fender. The door bolted up with no problems, all the holes are the same. One thing that is different is the armrest mounting bracket. The bracket is farther back on the new door. All you have to do is use a grinder or drill, to remove the rivets that hold the 95 bracket on the door, and then toss the bracket. Go unbolt the bracket from your old door, and the new door has holes for it so you just bolt it on and your interior panel will reattach the same way it did on the old door. If you plan on using the newer mirrors that are already on the door, then good for you. I need the swing arm style mirror for towing so I had to remove the new mirrors which revealed 3 small holes and a large square hole for the mirror support. I was able to line up my mirror with 2 of the holes, and I drilled 2 holes for the bottom of the arm. I put some silicone on the back of the mounting pad to stop water from leaking in through the extra holes. Aside from grinding the speaker hole larger to accomodate my speakers, it was a mostly bolt on deal.

Good info. You should submit your posts on your front end swap and your door swap as a tech article.

I already did an article on the tailgate swap, I could probably do one on the door swap. The front end swap seems like a lot of typing though.
