Thread moved to 1948-1960 truck forum. You should get more help here.

I think that all of the turn signals were aftermarket in those years. Here are a couple of wiring schematics for the 48-52 and the 53-56 years.

Are your turn signals the type that clamp onto the steering column? I'll poke around a bit and see if I can dig up a wiring diagram. Hopefully someoen here as some insights into it.

The first thing I would do is convert the electrical system to negative ground and then work with the turn signals. With a positive ground system it only a matter of time before you fry something...it's sorta like being right handed but having to do everything left handed...

I received the truck as a gift and the starter and generator was converted to 12 volt positive ground all ready. The turn signals clamp on the side of the steering wheel all I need to know is how to wire it in to the stop lights.

Here is the wiring diagram from SignalStat. You have to have the switch with seven wires to use them with your stop lights. If you have the switch with five wires you will have to run separate lights for your brakes.

I have kept my trucks negative ground and have never run into a problem. I just make sure if I have to jump start a truck I don't allow the two vehicles to touch. I am also keeping my trucks stock and not adding any accessaries except for the turn signals and stock radio.
