06 Engine hesitates when accelerator pushed quickly.

Took my 06 screw in to have it checked for a hesitation when I do quick acceleration. The 5.4 acts like it is starving for fuel when I push the accelerator pedal like when I need to pass or do a quick take off. It does it from a complete stop or when I am running along fat dumb and happy. Dealer says that it is normal and is due to the time lapse in the accelerator electronics. I think he's full of bull. Anybody else have this problem?

Yes it's common. yes it is due to electronic throttle. These new trucks have a servo that controls the acceleration. The easiest thing to do is to get a tuner such as the Edge Evolution and it will go away and you will have a much more driveable truck. Do a search for Edge Evolution on this board and see what people are saying about it. I love mine!

Yea, I second that. It's normal, I have been in some instances where I slam the pedal to the floor, and the truck is like.....What?
I am saving to get the Edge tuner for my truck as well.

Yeah -- that is completely normal -- its kinda like when your drunk and you tell yourself to get up -- and it takes a minute to process - lol -- any tuner should be able to fix it though -- so I hear!

Only if the Tuner can be directly related to the problem...like if you advance the timing too far and end up with the number 6 cylinder in you passengers lap..there are alot of topics on this. I have a Tuner and leave it in place when I take it to the Dealer. But then again I am By the assumption you Pay to Play...sometimes though you end up Paying Twice.

Just do some research here You will definitely find some Good Info.

Have a 06 5.4 and it does the same thing. It will accelerate ok if you slowly apply the gas. These trucks are not race cars but they pull anything.

After the tuner install, if you stomp it you will smoke the tires! It is very responsive now.

If you do a search you'll find a way to calibrate the accelerator pedal. I had the bad hesitation and most of it went away with this fix. It does work.

I also looked to try to link it. I couldn't find it. I'll look more when I get the chance. I believe the directions went something like, turn the ignition on without starting the engine. Step on the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor in a steady pace and release it. Then cycle the ignition. If I remember, that's all there was. Not sure if the dash lights lit up or something. There was a definate difference after I did it though. You'll definately notice it if you needed calibration.

I think you have to wait three seconds or so after turning the ignition switch off before turning it back on. Turn it on, wait till all the lights go out and then start the engine. It's been a long time sinse I did it. Hope this helps.

Had the same problem until I installed the edge evolution with attitude. Totally different truck, I definately recommend this product. If you need to take it to the dealership you can always reinstall the default values and just unhook it.

I re set the accelator by folowing the directions. Turn on key without starting motor, press pedal to floor, turn off key and turn back on key waite 3 seconds and start motor. It made a big difference. I tested it out, pushed the pedal down hard and away it went. Very little hesitation compared to before. It works.
