Reason: missed info
bf250, I would like to see a pic if it is not too much trouble. This is the first time I have heard of cutting the bumper, and I am very interested in seeing how you did it.
No made the cut and came out sweet. Plasma cutters work nice and neat. And was having clearance problems with 285, stock calls out 235's, nothing tall just a bit wider.
Your truck is 10 years old, springs have probibly settled. Moog may have a stock replacement that you can pickup cheap, you should be able to clear 31's with little effort.
On my 95 i had the same problem. Instead of cutting the bumper I just took 2 or 3 rectangular cut pieces of 5/8th steel with two holes drilled in them and stacked them
between the bumper mounts and bumper. I cant remember if I used new bolts or not but its pretty simple to tell if you need them. It didnt look bad either, the gap on top was a little bigger but not noticable.
As a couple of other folk mentioned, go ahead and trim the bumper. You cut the lower rear edge of the bumper so that a small triangle of metal is removed.
Put a piece of duct tape over the part of the bumper that needs to be cut, mark the cut line and cut it with a sawsall. File any rough edges when you are done, then put a coat of black rust-proof paint on the cut edge.
I did this on my '95 4WD F250. It took about a half hour and allowed running 12.5-33's with no rub.
