I have a few questions about a dana 44
here is what I am trying to do I want to take a 75 f 100 with a dana 44 ft end and make it a 3/4 ton version using a 77 dana 44. would I be able to take every thing from the spindles out off( meaning strip the axel down to the spindles but still leave them on) and swap every thing around that way or would I have to change the spindles also? and I wanted to know if the gears would be interchangable. The 75 has 3.50 and the 77 has 4.10, I wanted to take the 3.50s out and put in the 4.10s
im not the best axle guy around, but i have learned that if you swap the gears around you will have to have them set up again, because it wont sit the same in another housing, is what ive been told. im not sure about the spindles, i would think the d44 hd or 3/4 ton would have different bearings, so i would say to use the 3/4 spindles, but dont hold me on that.
You will need the spindles too because the bearings are bigger in the 8 lug. As far as gears, I think the 77 is a low pinion housing and the 75 is high, so no, they won't work.
