Question No Idle at startup

Truck:
1996
Ford ranger
4.0L V6

<o> </o>

In the morning when I start the truck up it will start fine and then die. I have to give it a little gas to keep it going. It runs good while driving; just when I start the truck when it’s cold it will not idle

<o> </o>

The ranger use to trough code P1506 and P1507. I reset the code and turned my TB **** and the Check engine light never came back on. But I know I still have a problem because it won’t idle. When engine is warm It will idle at a low RPM.

Was wondering if someone could help my find my problem

<o> </o>Thanks in advance,

<o> </o>

IAC (Idle Air Control) valve, mounted on the upper intake next to the throttle body.

Hi Bob, You are correct. In this part of Canada they refer this as AIC (air input control), sometimes as an Air Bypass valve. Best to be knowledgable

I had one go open to ground this morning.

Agreed.

You can clean the IAC with TB cleaner, but it doesn't tend to work very well. Got me through last winter, but now that it's getting cold again, it's acting up again. Probably should have just replaced it to begin with, rather than monkeying around with it twice (it's more of a pain to get to on the 2.3 than on the V6 engines).

I tried cleaning the IAC. it gave me a smoother idle but still at a lower RPM. The IAC was clean a few weeks ago cause i thought that was what caused it to

I changed my IAC and now my idle is way high. It also sticks when i shift gears.

Is their some other parts not working in the truck or is their some way to dial down the IAC?

It takes a while for the ecu to figure out how to control the new iac. Typically, the new one will make the engine run faster at the same signal, so the ecu needs to be 'trained' for the new iac, which in my experience can take a week or two. I think it helps to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, or to reload the program in the ecu, if you have a tuner.

Disconnect the battery cable for 20 minutes or so, or pull the Computers power fuse for the same time, to reset the computer, after the IAC replacement.

The computer is using info it stored from the old failing IAC & hasn't yet figured out you've replaced it. So help it out, by erasing it's old IAC memory data, so it can store some new numbers.
That should make it happy.

Let us know how it goes.

I disconnected the battery re-installed the part and checked my throttle body screw (just barely resting on metal)

It does not hold 2k anymore and drives allot better. It idles right under 1k and hold at 1.5k when shifting.

Do I need to give it time to get to normal or do I have another issue

Thanks,
