1960 F100 Tailgate Latches

Hey, are the latches supposed to fit loose on the gate "lugs" ? My latches seem to hang down about 1/2", and on closer inspection, there is about 1/4" play between the latch and gate lug. Doesn't seem right , is it normal ?

I don't remember any time that mine weren't loose and I've known this truck since new. In fact, mine are worse than yours are but probably because the tops of my bed tipped in a little when we replaced the floor. You could try replacing the chains to see if it's better.

Wear & tear, boy-o, wear & tear will do that to anything.
They are supposed to lay Horizontal w/ a Rubber Bumper plugged into a Hole in the back side of the Latch to keep them from scuffing the paint on the Tail-gate.
