Problems (running rich) with 95 ford 150 with 4.9

Hi guys, I haven't posted anything in a long time but I have been reading posts.

Here it goes, we have a 95 150 2 wheel drive 4.9 w/o MAF and 3 speed auto w/ OD. Here are the problems we have had. Sometimes when the truck is either HOT or COLD all of a sudden it will run rich and act like its flooding for a few seconds, it would stall its self out if you don't press the gas pedal down a little to keep it running. A lot of black smoke comes out, in fact, looks like a diesel. Also, the exhaust pipe is now sutty all the time, and from what I understand it should be clean. I haven't run any codes on it yet, that is my next step. Another thing is the truck doesn't run well on the front tank (it has dual tanks) and the fuel gauge doesn't read on the front tank, and also the front tank it ALWAYS FILLED, like the return line from the rear tank is dumping into the front???? I don't understand that at all. Also when it does run on the front tanks the fuel pump running sounds a lot "worse" than when the rear pump runs. One more thing, if you go around a turn too fast (in rear tank) the truck wants to shut off too, and load up.

We have replaced the fuel reg and it didn't seem to help a lot, the plugs were also changed too. The check engine lite has never turned on.
So let me know what you guys think, I know I posted a lot, but try to help me out!!! Thanks!!!!

It's the fuel selctor valve on the frame. IT's gone belly up. Then the O2 sensor is probably shot causing the rich condition.

You need new gears. 4.10's or 4.56's depending on what you use the truck for.

If it runs rich when cold, suspect the engine coolant temp sensor. If it does it when hot, suspect the O2 sensor. If both of them are known to be good, and your not getting any codes, try to pull codes. If you can not pull codes, suspect the ECM.

If you are running rich the first things you want to look at are:

ECT
O2
Fuel pressure
Fuel injectors
