Just buy a Chevy then. That is a crappy rice burner engine with an ok tranny. Not too great though.

I'd go with the 6.4. With all the issues with the 6.0, whether you get a good one or not its reputation as unreliable is well known. I bet future resale values will reflect that after the new motor has been out a while. Plus you’ll be getting bigger and better. Given that buying either is a gamble, I’d bet on the first year motor.

I'm waiting for the flames to come from this statement. I think most 6.0 owners will truthfully state that they have had no problems with their trucks and that quite to the contrary, they can't be happier.

You bring up a good point though that the perception is that the 6.0 was riddled with problems and that most buyers who haven't bought before will probably factor that perception in. Reality is that the 6.0 is a good, solid motor and that the problems are exaggerated way beyond reality. In Ford's case however, perception has become reality in the form of declining market share. This 6.4 should really turn that around.

That’s a good point Jones. I'm one of those owners. Never had any serious problems with my 05 6.0, but I can’t be happy if I’m not confident in its reliability. I think twice about going too far from civilization. Will it get me home? My old Bronco 351HO always did. Now I'm not as sure about the 6.0. I bought it for durability and reliability. But from what I see happening to others, I think I'm already taking a gamble. Like a woman's reputation or a painting’s authenticity, once questioned its never the same. So my experience has been ok, but my confidence has been shaken. If I were buying now I'd take a chance on a new puppy. A year from now the reviewers will be saying how unreliable the old motor was in comparison and then watch the resale values drop. Just one opinion. On the brighter side I have great hopes for the 6.4. If they get the motor right, they should see some market share return.

I will get a 6.4L F250 4x4 CC (don't know which trim package yet) in a year or two.

I am now in a quandary. I have wanted to get a PSD for a while now and don't know what to do. I am in a position to get what I want, just don't know now what that is. I didn't get the 06s because they didn't have all the features I wanted in trucks on the lot. I can get the 07 now, or wait for the 08s. Confused is an understatement!

Still think the 6.9 and 7.3 should be around. Only updated.

Unreliable ?

I owned a 2003 6.0 and NEVER had a problem with it. The dealerships all reprogramed my PCM when I brought it in for service. Remember "pilot point injection" ? Ford should have left this alone, I liked it. I now own 2 f250 '05 6.0 trucks and they have NEVER caused me concern. I would like to know what the MPG is going to be for the 6.4. After all it is a 6.0 with new heads, two turbos, and all that emissions crap. With the price of diesel not following the gas prices anymore, I would pause to consider buying anything new in a diesel. The oil industry is choking the nation with these prices and they are STILL making a fortune off the price of diesel. The new ULS diesel is out and it is an excuse to keep the prices high. When I bought my 2003 the price of diesel was about 1.25 a gallon. In two years it doubled and since has never come back. It is not the year of the truck that has the resale value in the dirt, it is the price of diesel. The MSRP on the new 6.4 will more than likely price a lot of people out of buying. You will notice that Ford has been extremly quiet about the pricing of the new trucks. They offered nearly nothing in incentives for the 2007 models and I am guessing it is because they don't want to keep a de-fibrillator at thier dealerships when people see the new pricing structure. I would buy a 2007 6.0 and leave the 6.4 to be a proven engine when real people put it to the test.

I have a 2005 F350 and had nothing but trouble. It has been in the shop 14 times since 6,000 miles. New turbo, rebuilt turbo, new engine, another turbo rebuild and many break downs and ruined trips. I am waiting to make a deal with Ford and I will buy a 08.

Do any of you think Ford would build an F-350 only with an updated 6.9 Turbo diesel special order in place of the 6.4? Possibly more power than 6.4? New technology, "old style new block"

Well, if I hit the lottery, I'm gettin' me an '08. Probably a F-450. I'd think that Ford would make sure to get their act together on the 6.4 after what happened to them on the 6.0. Without that lottery thing though, I'll have to stick with the 7.3 for a while....

You are calling the LBZ crap?

The list of problems with the last 3 duramax engines is a helluva lot shorter than just the 6.0. Please, get a clue.

yup.

i constantly go to truck pulls in my area and i have never seen any diesel truck except the duramaxes fall flat on there faces once they start to get bogged down a bit. i know alot of people that have them and lots of them have burnt out fuel pumps before 100000 kilometers or head problems from they guys who work theirs for a living. let alone that fact that the truck that it is stuffed in is pretty much a halfton with a diesel put in it
