hello i have a 72 pulling truck i have been running a np 205 devorced set up for the last 3yrs and it seems to work very good so far but i am wondering is there a way to beef it up i have been running 33's but now went with 35's and dont wanna break dose pro fab make any kits or?
about the only weak link in the setup is the driveline... one thing i did was go to a 3" driveline with bigger u joints.. i just had to buy the yokes for the tranny and case... keep good u joints in it and put a loop on for good measure... I've raced with 38.5" boggers for the past 6 years and never had a problem..
i was gonna put a 14 bolt gm rear in it mostly cause i only have on axel let for a spare 70 and around here gm parts are easy to come by. i also was gonna run gm yokes and custm drive shafts i run spicer joints now but i am thinking about checking out brut force spicer keeps jacking up there price and the bruts are a bit cheaper around here and are not cros drilled and have no grease holes but i was also told i only need to beef up my intermedit shaft and rear the front should be fine and since i put a high pinion in it my drive shaft angle is straight in the front but now that i swiched to 35's i am thiniong about doing the front also
I ran 36 inch SX's for 3-4 years without any modifications to the stock drivetrain and never broke anything except a few ujoints- and that was due to a bad driveline I kept putting off fixing... If your truck is light- you shouldn't ever have to worry about breaking things with 35's, and even at that- I'd run it until it broke and then upgrade...
If you keep the driveshafts straight, you shouldnt really need to worry about u joints. Dont lift it for the tires, just hack the fenders out and keep everything --------
Profab does make a kit for the divorced 205. I have never saw one break with a kit in it. I myself have broke several output shafts. A profab kit is on my shopping list. The kit uses a 1410 joint at the rear and you can buy the 1410 yoke for either the 70 or 14 bolt.
any idae on the price i am looking at putting a pro fab and a reverser in next off seson but i dont think i can do it over this off seson so i want to get the shafts set up so when i do go with the pro fab set up i dont have to remake shafts
