Hey guys first post here. I have a 97 expedition xlt 4wd. I have the 4.6l and 3.55 rears. It’s got 130k miles and other than the exhaust manifold bolts breaking it’s been perfect. I tow a 10ft enclosed trailer with this truck nothing bigger. The engine I’d have to say with the tall rear gearing is really a dog. It pulls the trailer but not with authority. Even when not towing it struggles on bigger up hills. Beside that I love it and wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Sorry for the ramble, my question is I want to get some more pep. I was thinking of changing my rear to maybe a 3.73. All my other suv’s with 3.73 rears seem a lot stronger. Is this an easy swap? It is worth the hassle? I’m also nervous that my truck has been perfect and if I change something in the tranny then I may start having problems with it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. <O Mark
The 373's will help and is not too difficult a task if you've been into diffs before. At least you don't have 4wd where you would have to change both front and rears.
