They did merge, a long time ago and they call themselves New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI). The current autos they make together are the Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix. Both cars are rolling off lines in Toyota plants. NUMMI has been making cars together since the 85 Nova.

LOL, I forgot that GM and Isuzu build cars to gether too! Buy American?

Sure.

A national automaker hasn't worked anywhere else, in terms of quality, and it won't work here.

Let's face it, until the last half decade or so, these two companies were competing to make the biggest piles of crap out there, if not in terms of whole packaging, at least somewhere in their products.

If TBI or CFI wasn't enough, head gaskets, intake mani gaskets, anything with plastic in it would snap into millions of pieces (my camaro's dash pad, for example), and on and on...

Well right now I think it would be a boost for Ford hopefully in quality, I'm a Ford tech, never drove anything different until my '05 F-150 which was traded in shortly after 20+ service visits at under 19k. My wife's Escape is a pos, i know about 7 other people with new F-150s that hate them and have constant problems. and unfortunately it seems everyone I know with newer gm vehicles rarely ever make a non-scheduled service visit. Its just nice now to know I wont have to replace brakes every 15-20k. So maybe they can help ford pick up loose ends

They have been "hinting" at a possible merge ever since they decided to do a JSTF transmission.
