I've rebuilt and swapped a 390 in my 66 to replace the old 240. The original transmission is still pluggin along but pitchin' a fit from time to time. I have moved the shifting to the floor already...and it helped for a while with cleaner shifts and less hangups. The 3 speed is just to low for my driving needs. I am trying to find a strong, clean shifting, transmission with 5 or 6 gears to replace this one. Two parts:
1. Who makes one?
2. Will I need to do much modification or can I use my original housing?
Mike- what are you going to be asking this truck to do? Are you going to be doing truckish things, or are you going to use it as though it were a car? If you are thinking truck- you need a Clark 285, if you have car type duty in mind, Richmond makes five and six speed manuals. Tell us what you are thinking. DF
