really depends on how it's been taken care of, but thats alot of miles. By that time theres usually lots of other little issues, if the truck is sound the previous owner probably took care of it. I'd get an oil analysis ($25, someone on here can tell you where) and look for stuff like windows and locks not working, warning lights on the dash, dome light function, oil in the coolant, lots of smoke on startup. That should help you decide if the truck has been neglected. It's $10,000 for a new motor, $3000 for a tranny, adds up fast.

I Just purchased a 2000 F350 with 188,000. I have put on 3000 since then with no problems. Like Kbeefy said, it all depends on how it has been taken care of.

i bought my 2000 with 191,000 on it and now has 205,000 and the only thing ive had to replace were the brakes. if it is taken care of that is really not that many miles. there are members on this site with close to half million miles. check things like coolant for sca additives, take the intake off the turbo and check the fins for chips and wear, it shouldnt be blowing blue smoke at all. try to check ball joints and steering components. just be prepared because parts for these trucks are very expensive

Look it over real good (leaks, turbo compressor wheel, dust in the intake tube, how it drives, ect). On your test drive, take it to an independant diesel mechanic and have him check it out.

143,000 when I bought mine last year and the only things I HAD to replace where the fuel pump and starter. The rest were WANT replacements.

My first post finally, and I thought I would chime in. I got the same truck up in Montana, which has LOTS of gravel roads, and I have 146000+ miles on it. have done nothing yet to it. will do a few things like exhuast and AIS adn I am pretty much done. so far so good with teh truck. took it to Salt lake city and got around 17 to 20 mpg. and after my veggie convertoing that will drasticly change.

I paid more than $10k. and have seen lots for teh same truck you are looking at for around 14k. so Money talks my friend. good luck and enjoy

Bill, mine still delivers RVs so here is what you need to check....The differential, tranny, waterpump, the e brake because of ignorant use. The flywheels on these trucks seem to go as far as info I got from my tranny guy and the dealership...I had to replace mine on the side of the road...not fun....Other than that its just normal wear and tear. Ive even hydrolocked mine and she still goes strong. I put new injectors in at over 400k. It was actually just last month. Youve got lots and lots of miles left on a daily town driver.

$9500 is a great deal even with the miles on the truck. Though it spent its life towing, highway miles are the easiest on the truck. For that price you will be able to afford some maintenance that may be needed and still have a great truck for the money. Many members here have that many miles and more with no problems. Keep us posted.
