I have a 1965 f150 2wd pu with a rusted front spring perch, are they changable with the 65-79 f150? and if not where could I get one .I see they are riveted and bolted on .has anyone else had this problem?do they tend to rust in the center,and where they mount to the frame?has anyone else had this problem and fixed it? are they hard to do?

2WD front ends will interchange from 65-79. I would go to a Ford
Dealer and get a new spring perch, if that is all you need. Don't worry about the f-150- f100 stuff. I have a 66 F-101 (not a F-100) and get some of the same comments. (F-101 was the light duty 4200 GVR model, nameplates still say F-100)

Jim, I have been reading your comment regarding a F101. I am glad to see that you offer some explaination for it, but I am still somewhat puzzled when you say the badging is F100. I remember when Ford went from F1 to F100, and have never seen a F101 truck anywhere. Do you have anything official from Ford that you could share with the rest of us concerning the F101? As interested in Ford trucks as I am, I would love to read about it.

Thanks?

John, the f101 is the series ID code in the vin #. 66 shows the folowing:

F100=5000lb
F101=4200lb
F102=5000lb
F110=5600lb 4x4
F111=4900lb 4x4
F112=5600lb 4x4
F250=7500lb
F251=4800lb (?)
F260=6800lb 4x4
F261=4900lb 4x4
F262=7700lb 4x4
F350=10000lb
F351=8000lb

This info is from the "Ford Pickup Red Book" Some of the #s dont make much scence, but you know how it is.

Are those sub numbers or what?? I have never seen anything but F100, F250, F350 in the pickup truck.

The trucks are still F100s, 250s,350s. These #s are in the vin. Ford has always had different GVW trucks in the same model. Usually you can find 3 different F250 for a given year, light duty, standard duty, and heavy duty. My brother used to have a F250 that was only rated for 200lbs more than my F150. Ah, Ford codes, aint they fun.

I have removed the perches from my 1965 F100 frame. It's a matter of grinding and pounding out the rivets. You will need to release the axle by removing the steering components and axle mounts and lowering the I-beam to release the spring first. A grinder (cutting wheel) and a air chisel will remove them. I have installed QA1 suspension and no longer need the perches or any of the other FE components for that matter. PM me if you'd like to buy any of it.

This is funny, but also a regular occurrence. Members - often but not always limited to newby’s - carrying on a 10, 15, or even 20 year old conversation, as if it was just the continuation of a friendly chat from few minutes ago. Love it.

Never did a 2wd, but I did do my 94 4x4. Went to bone word got one and bolted it back on with grade 8 bolts. Wasn't as easy as I thought but did it in a day.
