well first of all, do you here any air being blown through the ducts by the blower motor when you switch it on? If you don't feel any heat at all there could be a clog in your heater core. Generally even if you do not use your heating system, you can still feel heat radiate from the dash vents. But the evaporator is an A/c component so that doesnt have anything to do with the heating. So hopefully this helps you on figuring out what it might be. good luck

thanks for your reply. i beleive its the blend door motor assembly they are talking about. won't switch from hot to cold. not sure why they want to change the evaporator, probably for the money. lots of labor involved(they say ten hours) have to remove dash. well i purchased repair manual from e-bay and may attempt the blend door replacement myself. and advice would be appreciated

Just take your time, keep bolts and nuts organized. It will just take a while to complete. My guess is there should be 5 or up to 8 bolts possibly more holding the dash 'n such in place, I dont know exactly how many though.
