I have a 02 F250 4X4 PowerStroke, the O/D lite is flashing and does not want to shift out of 1st.Could these two things possibly go together? I still did not have a chance to check the codes.

A flashing OD light means a code is stored in the computer's memory that describes a transmission problem. So yes, I think the two are related.

Could this also cause the truck to stall?

Sorry, you really need to ask this in the appropriate 1992 Econoline forum.

Not usually I don't think. It's not impossible, but if it's stalling, it's usually fuel/vacuum/IAS related.

Guages don't work now!

Just did the overdrive shifter thing, and when I was putting the key back into the switch, the blinkers started going crazy. After that fiasco was done, went for a drive and none of my guages work. Any ideas? Fuse, Relay.

thanks in advance.

Found out problem, R & S Strauss actually sold me the right part, the shaft itself which contains an inner shaft & 2 blades on each end bolted on the steering column, etc,etc.... w/the bottom end is attached to the actual cable to da trans by 2 bolts...Well da outer shaft (the old one) cracked in half...Which is miracle Strauss Auto had the actual part (Usually acquired by only Ford Dealership Parts Dept) Never had a shifter break on me like that B4 ,or ever!!!!......Nuff Said

My overdrive switch light does turn on and off.... but the tranny doesn't shift out of overdrive. Anyone have any thoughts about this ?

Thanks

When you are pressing the button are you above 50 MPH? It should be in overdrive at that speed, and pressing the button will downshift the trans to 3rd gear.

Overdrive switch

Thanks Mark !

I would swear in my old 95 model F350, pushing that button worked at a lot slower speed. I drive in the north Georgia mountains a lot, and turned off overdrive rather than using the brakes going downhill.
Did notice when I was coming home last night... just hit the button to check....and it down shifted.... first time it worked with this truck. LOL I suspect I was over 50mph... even though that road has a 45 mph limit.<G>
Going to TN for the next few days... glad to know what I was doing wrong.

Overdrive shifter not working correctly ?

Mark...or whomever...

I tried above 50 mph...and it appears when I pushed switch, the tranny was placed in neutral... ? rpm's went to 800 or so....

After mulling this over... I did it again. Same thing... went to neutral, I even raced the engine.

I quit messing with it after that, since I was 200 miles from home ! <s>

Any thoughts? Sounds like something on other end is not working right? That the switch is working ?

Did you do this coasting? If so that indicates a problem with the coast clutch. If you did it power on there's a larger problem.

Mark..

Was probably coasting down one of those steep TN mountain inclines. Just thought, take it out of overdrive..rather than ride the brakes.

Come to think about it... I may have had the cruise control on, when I pushed the overdrive button.. Would that make a difference ?
