first tow report, and pics
I posted about a month ago for people's reports on how their F150 tows with 6K lbs or so... I went ahead and bought the truck, and already towed with it, so I figured I would post my results.
I picked up my new truck about 3 weeks ago and already have about 1800 miles on her (before this weekend). This weekend was the first time I've towed with it, and I was very impressed. For comparison, For the last 18 months I have been towing with my 97 F250 PSD with an aftermarket exhaust, so I was worried about going back to a gasser, and especially a 1/2 ton.
All I can say is it tows great.. Far better than I imagined. I have the 3.55 gears, and I think it actually helped on the highway for running a higher speed (not too many big hills around here). I pulled at about 75 mph for 3 hours and couldn't be happier. I dare say I like it better for towing than my PSD. Right now the only thing I don't like compared to the PSD is the MPG twing. MPG towing at 75 (3000 RPM) is 8.7. MPG empty is about the same as the PSD (18-20). The truck handles the trailer very well. It took a little while to get used to it, since the PSD was so nose heavy the front tires would never push through a corner like the F150 has a tendancy to do.
RPM with OD off at 65 is 2600ish, 75 is 3000. I run the stock 20" Pirelli tires offered from the factory.
An Easy 75 mph

Very impressive and thanks for the information. I have an 05 4x4 Lariat with 3.73 gears and I pull a trailer with 4 four wheelers on it. Can't say that it has any trouble either. Are you running the truck stock or do you have a programmer? I am running the Edge Evolution. Congrats on the new truck!

Nice truck and CJ. I towed my TJ for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago as well and the truck did great. I have an Edge Evolution tuner with the stock 17" wheels. It did pull great until we got into the hills, but as long as I took my time and didn't expect it to pull up the hills at 75 mph it did good. I got about the same mileage as you 9 mpg but that was in the east texas hills so all in all it did great.
Off topic, but is your jeep running full width 1-ton axles. What size tires are you running. I'm currently running stock TJ running gear right now with 33's, but getting ready to go full width 1-tons and am wondering about the width and whether I am going to have to buy a new trailer or not.

yup, fullwidths on H1 hummer beadlocks (brings the track width in about 8" compared to most rims).
Here is the track width with 3.5" BS Bart beadlocks and 38.5" SXs
and the 39.5" boggers on H1 beadlocks

I'm towing a 27' fifth wheel with a 16' slide with my 2004 F150 with the 4.6 (4X4)
It tows great and I get 12 MPG. Trailer weighs in around 7500 pounds ready to camp. Add in the people and stuff in the truck and you get the idea. I run an Edge Evo tuner on #2. Bigger hills slow me down, but never under 50 or so. 75 on the flats is no problem.
