Limited Diesel Purchases

For the second time since the fuel prices have started going down I was not allowed to buy more than gallons of diesel. I don't know if its just certain stations, but they won't let me buy over 50 gallons even if I go to the next pump. I just got my extra tank installed and now this crap. Both the stations were Exxon/Mobile.

I was told that if I had Fuelman that it would be no problem even though my Exxon Card is a corporate card. I'm not sure if I am just dealing with idiot workers or this is something new. I can understand if there was a shortage, but who cares if I buy the 80gallons or the next guy behind me.

Anyone else having problems buying more than 50 gallons of fuel from any particular stations???

One of the stations I go to limits the fuel to $50 with a credit card. Sometimes they can restart it and sometimes it doesn't work. This has been for a few months. I don't go there unless I have to.

Problem is that it was their card and it's an unlimited limit. I thought it was strange. I know about the $50 purchase limits and was wondering if this is something new.

All the gas stations around me limit the purchases to either 50 or 75 dollars, but all I have to do is put the nozzle back up and run my card thru again and off I go with another 50 if I'm really runnin on empty(which I don't do). I can't imagine their computers being that sophisticated to read cards run mult. times. After all the diesel pumps here are on the computer with the gas pumps, because they all have the same limit which is not good considering it doesn't matter what fuel your gettin and how big your tank is, they still put a cap on it.

i think its stupid, how big of tanks do diesle trucks have? what, the pumps are just for the VW diesel?

i could understand the limit be $50 if the price a fuel was $1.50, but at almost $3 a gallon, they should use some common sense and raise the limit.

I agree, they should raise the limit. My last fill up (just the main tank) was $108. When I go fuel up I just step inside and ask them to turn the pump on. That removes the limit for me so I don't have to stop and reset in the middle or drive off with half a tank. I can still use my card to fill up, I just have to go take care of it inside when I'm done rather than doing it at the pump.

I wonder how the big rigs do it at these limit pumps. i don'te ven bother with them. if they don't want to get my 70-90 bucks for a fill up, then screw them.

only one station near here does it, hess. no other station limits the amount of gallons or cost.

Valero here in my suburb shuts off the pump at $ 75.00...I quit buying my diesel there 6 months ago.

I buy most of mine at a very high volume Walmart.

stvneil...I was told that if I had FuelMan I wouldn't have a problem. I have an Exxon-Mobile Corporate card that they won't allow me to buy over 50 gallons at Exxon-Mobile stations.

I was told that if I bought at a Exxon-Mobile truckstop I wouldn't have an issue. I spoke to one of my other pilots that had the same problem at the same station. Since I work for Exxon-Mobile I am limited to buying from those stations. I know we have FuelMan cards so I guess I'll get one of those.

The stupid thing is that I use the same card to buy my Jet-A and that's 245 gallons without the reserve tank. I wonder when they will tell me I can't top off the Corporate Heli(grin).

We had a limit when Katrina and Rita came through, but that was because diesel was really hard to come by...Now it's just stupid. I was trying to take advantage of the $2.58 diesel.

Several gas stations around here cut the pumps off at $75. On the rare occasion that I do get fuel in town, I'll pay the rest in cash or swipe a different card. It is kind of annoying, though.

The big rigs avoid that mess by not stopping at gas stations. I've never run into that kind of harassment at Truck Stops. I've never run into a Truck Stop that bothers people like that on the commercial side, anyway.

Thats true, I have never been stopped at the big Flying J or the AW truck stops with a certain purchase limit, I just have seperate issues when going to those places.

I have not run into problems with fueling limits in my neck of the woods. The only annoyance I have is that most of the stations I use don't have diesel pumps with card readers and they won't turn the pump on until they have my card in hand. This means I have to make two trips into the station. Once to give them my card and once to complete the sale after I've filled my tank up.

About a year ago the credit card limit at most stations around here was $50 ,but now it is $75. Unfortunately, the $75 limit is still not enough. I had to swipe my card twice today because I needed $90 worth to fill up.
