Shaving heads

To increase compression can i shave a little bit off the bottom of the heads ans/or get thinner head gaskets, will it increase comepression, what else will increase compression? this is on any V8 engien, but im wondering about doing it to a late 70's 351(M,W,and C)

The best place to get that info would be in the engine forums. But I can say you for certain that shaving the heads will not give a lot of compression. The piston type determines that more then any thing. With a thinner head gasket, .042 compressed hieght, and milling the heads .020 will give at best .5 more compression. How much are you looking for?

be better using flat top or domed pistons with small chamber heads shaving the heads will give you a smaller chamber but doesnt make that much difference a 70 to 72 clevland 4 bbl was 10:1 comp 73 and later was 8:5:1 for feul and emission purposes also keep in mind to watch valve clearence when milling heads and chaning pistons but a good machine shop will help you with that 351m not a real good builder windsor is the easist and cheapest for parts and aftermarket availibility
