Question REAR Axel code tag 1962 F100

Question Experts.

my rear end had the axel code tag still in place and the following is on it, I have looked in my Ford Shop manuals and called several F100 Buddies and we are drawing a big time blank. So here is what is on the tag.

4001 L 302
2FD

Am trying to determine the rear axel ratio. The truck has a Trans code A the Axel code is 11

Thanks, AL62

Al, I'm thinking you may need to look a little closer for another number in the lower left corner like under your posted 4001. That is where the ratio is on the tag. It is under the bolt hole area.

John,

Did a bit more digging on the tag. Above the 4001 I found "Chassis L" and below I found what looks like 11G MICHIG

Look on your tag and you should see something like 3.20 or 3.73. The first digit may have been stamped out where the hole is. This is on the top row. The second row should have some letters similar to WBG-AG . It could start with WDM

Al, Check out this site http://www.kevinstang.com/Ninecase.htm and look about 3/4s of the way down the page and there are some tags displayed there. That might help you in knowing what to look for.

Axle code of 11 back in 1962 for the F100 was a 3.70 ratio with an open differential.
