Another 15 months and 8k since the last review above.

138k. No rust, great paint, no scratches, chips, rips tears or worn spots. Wheels are 100%. Getting 14.8 to 15.5 around town and 20-22 hwy.
I could probably replace the GPR, and go through the Neutral Safety Switch. In Bucks County, PA it gets down into the teens for a few weeks, so I just plug her in. I’m still impressed with the Michelin AT’s as well as the 7.3’s stock performance. It has been super towing the boat (11K lbs) and is excellent on steep, algae ridden ramp inclines. The 4x4 is used often, with a long uphill driveway. 38k miles in 4 years isn't much. So far, I would say it's depreciated from $14k to $9 or 10k. With the cost of diesel going up, I'm anticipating diesels to drop in price. I would get one that has depreciated the first 100k, because of my light miles. I would move up from Supercab to Crew, and stick with the Lariat (or better) package. The electric telescoping mirrors and navigation are also a must. I would upgrade the leather steering wheel immediately, as well as shocks, ride control and tires.
I would love to see Ford offer a higher final drive ratio for the 4X4 package to improve economy at higher speed.

Frustrated f550 Owner

Hello to all and I really appreciate what I have read thus far. I recently purchased a 1999 F550 7.3L AT 123K miles with a Mason dump. I have many questions I'd like to ask but don't want to fill up a screen with multiple topics. I'm obviously a newbee and could use some coaching here. My first topic deals with the ignition switch. When in the off position, power is still going to accessories and is draining the batteries. I found a broken contact in the switch that is activated when the key turns. Do I have to replace the whole ignition or can this small part be found somewhere? Thank you!

Welcome to FTE! You've found a great resource for you and your truck.

As for the above quoted part of your post, general rule of thumb is always start your own thread. Do not ask your question here. Why? Because that way you'll get answers specifically for you and your problem, plus, your question in someone else's thread won't "hijack" that thread from the OP (Original Poster...ie, thread author) and his reason for posting.

AWESOME! I have been looking for this exact type of thing for a while now. Everything I have had no idea of is right here. Best post I have ever seen on a forum. Thanks a ton. Now I have some ammo at least when I get to the dealer. First time ever even considering a diesel and it has been stressful to say the least. This should definitely alleviate that. Thanks again.

PMR's are weaker and will break more easily, especially if you start pushing the engine with upgrades for much higher HP. I don't think it's a big issue if you're not towing/hauling much. I've got nearly 290K miles on my '02 with PMR's and haven;t had a hiccup with them... BUT I don't tow or haul ANYTHING aside from once every year or so picking up and hauling a new-used vehicle for one of my kids.

I have an '03 PMR motor with 160/30's injectors, 38R turbo and T500 HPOP, I plow and tow, not as frequently as when those items were stock, with DP tuning but still load that motor up pretty good from time to time. My father has a mostly stock '02 PMR engine with over 200K and Hauls a 12k+lb 5th wheel with an intake, straight pipe, and DP tuning. No issues, that truck runs like a top. Very generally speaking, until you get above 400HP and nearing or above 800Ft lbs of torque coming on early in the power band (which is all in the tuning), PMR's are no worries.

edit for the old timers like me and Pete: I got all excited to see Mikes username on a thread on the front page. Thought he had come back...

I knew there was a "safe range" for the PMR's and was thinking that it was around 400 HP, but just wasn't sure. Thanks for that extra detail, Jason.

BTW... whatever happened to Mike? Did he just up and disappear on us?

Not unless you plan on building some kind of high HP monster. Otherwise there is no difference for you to be concerned about. Not even for a moderately modified truck.
