A Re-flash is updating to the latest and greatest software from Ford. If you are having driveability issues tell them and they can check it for you. I was having a surging problem just off idle and the re-flash fixed it along with the throttle pedal. I don't know if there is a reflash for the 06 or not. Warranty will cover it if it's a driveability issue and you tell them that you are having driveability issues. If you go in and tell them that you are getting bad MPG then you're S.O.L!
Lariat SCREW 2wd 5630lbs. Go for the 3:73 gears, the mileage difference is nothing, and is better suited with this truck. In fact I have seen where the 3:73 gears get a little better mileage then the 3:55's.
My 04 Lariat SCREW with 3:73 LS gets 19.8mpg at 76mph turning 2100rpm. The overdrive in these trucks is pretty steep, so the gear difference between 55's and the 73's is not that noticeable, until you start towing heavy, and need to accelerate on the hwy against a good head wind. The 73's seem to keep the engine in it's ideal torque range better.
One thing that is different in the new 150's is throttle by wire, it take some getting used to and in my opinion many use a little more throttle than when it was a direct connect. Just play with the throttle when in neutral, and you will see what I mean.
Mine weighed in at 7600 with 2 people and a 6x12 trailer. So subtract 425 for people, and get 7175. Still haven't gotten just the truck on the scale, hopefully this week, but I think the trailers around 750. Took mine in today and said it "seems to have trouble pulling up hills empty" and asked about flashes. We'll see if they flash it. I had an 06 loaner with the 4.6 that would run circles around mine. Not complaining, pulls great off idle, just a little lame on hills.
What do you mean by the "re-flash" from Ford. I'm assuming it's the resetting of the factory computer by Ford. Close???
Do you think an '06 could benefit from a re-flash? What would they charcge to do it?
You are correct about the reflash. If there is one for your 06 it should be a simple warranty item. A lot depends on when your truck was built in the model year.
BTW my 06 Screw Longbox has always run great and it weighed right at the three ton mark the day I bought it.
Of course it does run just a little stronger since I got the update for my Predator tuner.

Once again proving my point about how simple it is to overload these trucks.
I didn't think it would be that easy, but you are definetly right big dave. I'm going to try to weight the truck tomorrow.
I've weighed my red truck at 7700 pounds. If you check my gallery you'll see a pic at 7400 pounds without anyone in the truck. I would add another 250 by myself.
Ford decided to make these trucks stiff and tough. They just forgot to put enough suspension under them to handle some weight.
It seems to me there are a lot of people out there hooking up their boat or trailer, loading up the box and wife and a couple of kids and the dog and travelling down the road way overloaded without even having a clue.

That has nothing to do with the truck. I have seen more 3/4 ton trucks rolling down the road overloaded than I have seen 1/2 tons overloaded. All makes and models.
One thing in common.

there is no way an extended cab weighs 7400 lbs. as you stated in the picture caption, you were in the process of moving. items weigh more than you think. these trucks on average weigh a little over 6000 lbs give or take a little.
I went to a scrapyard today and weighed mine. Came in at 6200 with me in it, so take off 225, leaving about 5975. Then again I couldn't see the numbers myself, guy just said 6200. Nothing of significant weight in the truck other than me. And a full tank of gas.

You missed my point.
I agree that the truck itself does not weigh 7400 pounds. The point that I was trying to make is that it is pretty easy to exceed the GVWR of 7200 with what might seem like a reasonable load. Just encouraging people to give a little thought to how much they load in their trucks.

That's pretty much what I would have expected it to weigh. You can see why you need to take advantage of whatever power increase you might get from a reflash. Better yet add a tuner.
You have to consider all the extra metal they use in the new trucks that give it the 5 star crash test ratings. Open the hood on both a 2003 or older 150 and a 2004 or new 150 and notce the huge front fender structure on the new one. and if u can open the hood of a chevy and notice there is no front structure. Thats why they have like a much lower frontal crash test rating. (note: im not talking about the new 07 chevy trucks that are saffer and just as heavy as todays 150s)
