"crusty" radiator.

The salty winter roads have taken their toll on the exterior of my "rad"(it's kind of green(in places). Any cleaning suggestions? Paint preferences?

There is a special radiator paint to transfer the heat better. Just check with your local radiator shop. Might be a good time to have it vatted and cleaned, I think the radiator shops use caustic acid.

The green may indicate some seepage. May be a good idea to have it pressure tested...

I agree with Ranger, I suspect you have some leaks.

No leaks..been full to the "brim" all winter, I think it's the saline off of the roads. I'll just give it a baking soda bath and then paint it.

Salt Turns white when dried, (if you are unsure about this buy some) I am betting you have a leak, hence the green. The salt would go back from the point of contact on your tires, for it to get to your radiator you would have to be plowing the road with your grill. Get it pressure tested.

That Dante, is a tuff nut to crack, we've delt with him before.
Hoss, a weeping radiator will look full while leaving the green trail. Wash it off and use a brush, paint it if you like, and see if it comes back. You came here looking for help, and you know the best in the world is here. Dont abuse the help.

It's green cause rads are copper. That normal after a few heat cycles with no paint or tinnnig on the core. mix some bacing soda with water spray it on let it sit for a 1/2 hour hose it off drive truck down hy-way for a few miles to dry rad and get it warm then tape off grill and spray with any old black paint in a rattle can. Try to go from several directions so the paint coats all the fins evenly. If you only go up and down you'll see un painted spots left to right. Paint from both sides. It will take two can maybe three but the rad will last a long time.
