iac valve question?

idle air control question. i have read the treads about it, and it seems like i might need to pick up a new one and slap it in. i have cleaned mine out and it didnt seem to help. everything works totally fine unless i turn the a/c on. this is when the idle surges to like 2000 rpms and its a royal pain to try and drive and shift. i used to have a low charge and it was cycling the compressor causing some idle surges, but i have fixed that. is there a troubleshooting procedure for this little valve?
to me it all just boils down to having a computer controlled fuel injected nonsense vehicle! they claim to run better than the older vehicles and they never do, nor are they ever easy to fix. the check engine light never even comes on.
oh and also i get some overheating when its acting up. i believe part of the iac job is to adjust the idle and regulate a different amount of air flow during hotter conditions.

Sounds like the IAC is acting out, with the A/C idle up problem.
Look in the "Tech Info" thread atop this forum for some IAC trouble shooting ideas.

The over heat problem with the A/C on, is likely something else.

Maybe a fan clutch problem, thermostat, clogged cooling system, partially collasped radiator hose, slipping serp belt, plastic bag, bugs, or other debris restricting air flow through the A/C condenser & radiator fins, wrong coolant to water ratio, ect, ect, so maybe have a close look under hood at the cooling system things.

I disconnected the IAC on my 94, adjusted the stop to pick up he rpms and have not had any issues. We trouble shot the system and it has a short in the wire bundle someplace so that why I did what I did.

Idles at around 750 rpm with ac on or off.

2pd yes i changed the iac from advance auto parts, but unfortunately it did not fix the problem, so i then took it back to the store haha. its so intimidating when you open the hood of these newer cars with all the bells and whistles. i am going to invest in a book. the idle surges to 2000 rpms only if i run the a/c. without the a/c running the truck runs fine.
if i disconnect the connector on the a/c compressor the idle surges to 2000 rpms at all times while driving. my guess is something that tells the truck to increase the idle only a little bit with the a/c on, is going haywire
