Looking at buying 1st Gen... Any concerns? Pics...
Hello all. Looking at buying a 1995 Lightning and was wanting know if there are some common issues I need to look for?
Here are the details.
1995 Red Supercharged F-150 Lightning
206,000 miles. Rebuilt at 140,000.
Powerdyne blower pushing 10lb boost
MSD ignition/boost retard
Autometer fuel pressure gauge with isolator
Autometer boost gauge
Factory Tech valve body, deep 4X4 tranny pan. New shift solenoids installed with valve body.
Gen 2 wheels
Gen 2 type exhaust
Has factory center seat
Cervini Ram Air hood
Tonneau cover
Alpine head unit, new front/rear speakers, 2 10's in Q logic box behind seat.
New FMS wires, plugs and new IAC installed last week. New emissions cert done today.
Dual electric fans.
Have traction bars, 2 new Belltech shocks and tow package not installed. Also have slicks mounted on wagon wheels
Guy claims to have reciepts on everything.
I've got him down to $8000. I'm going to see it in person this weekend. Worth it or no?
Thanks!
Brian

That's kind of what I was thinking. Just wanted to check to see if you guys new of any chronic spots with them. I know the 351s are pretty stout and reliable, just didn't know if certain things were prone to wear/breakage on these.
I'm also kind of curious what kind of power this thing has with 10lbs of boost?
Thanks!

I've never been in a 2nd gen, so, I couldn't tell you. Mine has a powerdyne on it and it flat out hauls. Accelerates very quickly.
The ride is great. It handles like a sports car in the twisties and rides like a comfortable truck on the interstate.
My interior was much better than anticipated given the mileage on the truck. The seats are very comfortable and aside from the dreaded dash hopping on the pass. side (I already fixed it), the interior is in great shape.

The ride is a bit firmer than a regular F-150, but the handling is GREAT!
The GEN 1's accelerate well for the type of truck it is, but not as nimble as a GEN 2. A stock GEN 1 will run mid/low 15's in the quater, and a stock GEN 2 will run low 14's/high 13's. Interior quality is exceptional on both generations.
The GEN 2 is a complete package, it has a blower, refined suspension, nice wheels and exterior trim. The GEN 1 handles great and rides well also. It is less expensive to own and the aftermaket parts are a cheaper too. Its not hard to buy and modify a GEN 1 to run with a GEN 2, and still have less invested (total).
The best way to decide is to test drive both generations.
