As I have been trying to find the front part of the rear fenders on my '65 while it has been getting ready to paint at my uncles body shop, the neighbor man(a demolation derby guy) just pulled in a 64' F-100. So I immediately went over to the guys house and talked to him about it. He said he is going to use it for a demo truck and would not sell it, BUT I gave him $100 for some parts. I got the front parts of the rear fenders, both bumpers, tailight covers, both door window railings, and all the glass off the back, front, and windows. All the glass will be in storage just in case. He also said I could take anything else off of it I wanted. Are there anymore parts I should get just in case? And now for my main question.... What engine does it have? The guy said he's going to pull it out and drop a small block of junk...I mean small block Che*y in it. So he said I could have the motor and tranny too. The tranny is a 3-speed and the motor is a V-8. The only odd thing I found that could maybe tell it apart is that the sparkplugs face inward toward the center. example... //\\. See what I mean? I would love to have this engine because it sounds like a good deal. So please help me identify this engine. Thank ya much!!!!!
Auston, Can't tell it's cid size with out measuring the stroke, but what you have described id a FE engine and it's common sizes are 352, 360, 390, 410, 428. Most likely it's a 352 or 360, or maybe a 390.
By all means grab it, as they are excellent truck engines. That is all that I run in my trucks.

I'm going over today to get the parts off of the truck that I need and the guy said as soon as he pulls the engine out to get it ready for derby, he would let me know so I can get it. We will be rebuilding it so then I'll be able to measure the CID of the engine unless there are some other distinguishing things that I could tell if anyone knows any, please share! Thanks.
John, Didn't all 390's come with a stock 4 barrel carb. If I am correct, then you could safely assume that anything with a 2 barrel is a 352 or 360. Hope this helps some what.
Mark I'm not certain on the trucks but many cars came with 390 2bbl. Austin check on the rear deck of the block for some casting numbers, right where a ch$#@ distributor would be. Post them and some helpful person will decode it for you.
I would pull any and all trim or optional stuff, even if you don't need it, it could be good trading material. Mechanical parts are everywhere, alot of trim and similar stuff is impossible to find these days..
I saw most of the trim on it, but it is all in the bed. I think it may be a little bent. Should I still get it? I haven't had anytime to go check out the motor numbers because we just got back from spring break. Thanks
John, Go back and read the first post, he described a FE not a 302. 302 plugs look like this \\\\ not like this //\\.

Auston, 25 motors could have been changed in that truck since it left the factory. What you described of the sparkplug wires, you have a FE 352, 360, 390. You can measure the stroke with a wire in the sparkplug hole and narrow it down, but You will have to pull a head and measure the bore to know for sure. Either way the FEs are great truck engines.

Alright, I'm back with another question about this local donor truck. I saw today while just looking around on it that it has what I'm guessing is air conditioning! That sounds like an awesome thing for a truck so old. I think it is rare isn't it? It has a *** on both sides of the cabs labeled "Air" and the **** look original and a blower right above the middle of the cab. So would it be wise to swap it out of there? And one more question that been forever bothering me about my 4x4. It has a *** around the center of the cab at the bottom of the dash. There are two **** on a plate. On is pull which has something to do with the vents and the other (mystery one) is a twist ***. It says "lock" i belive on it and has an arrow pointing to the right to twist it. I followed the wire and it goes to the end of the tranny I believe. Any ideas on what that is? Thanks!
