vv carb please God help me
got an 85 f150....has the crappy vv carb and the last dude that had it took some of the sensors off of it so the feedback system isnt reading right and it's got the distributor messin up the timing somehow....
anyways, i need a new carb and distributor...can't find a 2 barrel carb NEW...i'd have to switch over to a 4 barrel setup to be able to hook up to my AOD tranny...NOBODY has the stuff to do the distributor/carb swap and i'm frustrated
WHAT SHOULD I DO????
seems to me that it's about as expensive to do this crappy swap (unless i get lucky...) as it would be to just swap in a 5.0 fuel injected motor...i'd get better gas mileage i suppose and wouldnt have to fool with carb settings or whatever...i've never worked on carbs before...
just please help me i want this truck on the road bad but the MPG sucks right now!!! shes gettin 8 mpg on average

You're confusing me with carb vs tranny talk.
>>>>>there's some linkage for the AOD tranny that hooks up to the carb...not sure exactly what the deal is...just that advance "can't" sell me any 2 bbl carb because it won't work with my AOD tranny...i'd have to upgrade to a 4 bbl which i'm not crazy about
Why does the carb have to be NEW ?
>>>it doesnt...in fact i'd prefer to have a refurbished carb to save me a few bucks..ANY carb to replace my vv would be awesome
Why can't it be a service carb ?
>>>i dont mind getting a service carb one bit...i just can't find one!!

If you go to an autoparts store they should be able to cross reference that Motorcraft number to the supplier of carbs they use.
I forget all the carb re-builder names.
I know there is United & Tomco
see if you can find it on this site.

I have an '83 that HAD a VV, but now is using a common Holley that just happened to be a common base size! It has a nearly 1/2" gasket between it and the manifold. I found all this at my local independent parts store. They had a kit, that matched the kickdown linkage too!
As for the distributor, I went to the DuraSpark II system and eliminated the computer. Connected the vacuum advance to the port on the bottom of the carb.
Before I did all this, I rebuilt my VV. Believe it or not, it actually ran better after the build, but with no computer for it to talk to, it couldnt adjust itself. I only went with the little 500 CFM Holley as a last resort. Before, the gas mileage was around 9. Now, its around 13. No more smoky exhaust, either! Easy start with its electric choke, too!
Without taking the carb off the truck, I cant give you its model, and I dont have the paperwork for it at this time. I bet you dont have to replace your intake, yet, though.
