I just picked up a very clean mostly original 65 Custom Cab longbed for $405. One of the very few bargains I have found on Ebay. I was surprised that it did not come with the chrome side stips, which I thought were almost always included in the CC package. Were the chrome strips a seperate option?
The truck has 3 speed OD system that looks to be all intact, but the column shifter is pretty loose. Motor does not turn over, but it was driven from Nevada to Texas before being stored, so it may not be fatal. I am switching projects from the red on white CC I was building to this new truck as the body is in much better condition. Radiator support is almost rust free even.
I am planning to just swap all the new suspension, power steering, disc brakes from the first project to the new one and use the 390 C6 combo. So, if anyone is looking for a pretty complete OD system let me know.
Chris, Body side molding was part of the Custom Cab package. Does the cab have windshield trim, a bright grill and bumper? One thing one must remember, A lot of things can be changed out in 40 years.
Is it the OD unit that goes behind the Tranny, with the lever under the dash you pull out? If so I would like to know what you want for it, I have a 66 F-250 that has 4.10s, so I would like to have that for the highway trips.
Thanks
Joe

The truck does have the aluminum grill (that is why I bought it in the first place), and the windshield trim. It also has the sweep speedo instrument housing, "Custom Cab" badges on the doors, door panels with trim around them etc. Seems like it has everything except the side chrome! The front bumper is painted white however. I think the truck even has the original white paint on it still. The filler panel below the grill and behind the bumper is painted silver too.
Joe
It does have the pull out handle under the dash. If you are interested in the OD setup, drop me an email (cdoyle at kdwlawtx.com) and we can discuss exactly what parts you want. I was thinking $250 or so for the ALL the OD parts it has (trans, cable, relay, wiring, driveshaft, etc.).
If you are just looking for the trans and OD unit attached, I have one of those from the first 65 I bought! I have just decided to go with the C6 for strength (and ease of driving as my son will probably be driving this in the future).
My '65 F250 CC does not have the molding and it for sure is all original. It has the chrome grill, windsheild trim, white bumper, proper CC badging and is a Camper Special.
Darn Chris, I wish I was a little closer to Texas. I would love to take that OD tranny off of your hands for a spare. Not that mine has any troubles but I have wondered what would happen if it did go bad. Nobody out here in the sticks will know how to properly repair such a thing. Most people don't know that such a thing existed. I love that extra gear.
Jrs new 66 F250 is custom cab interior trim, door script, bright windshield molding and no side trim. it also has a custom paint from the factory light olive green metallic.
My '66 is suposed to be a custom cab; it's got the chrome windshield moulding and (painted-over) holes for the side trim. It used to have the standard speedo; I just finished putting in a sweeping speedo which the previous owner had started.
I think it'd look nice with side trim an a hood emblem to match the gear/lightning bolt horn button I've got, but I dunno. It looks pretty nice an business-like as is.
Thanks Chris,
I will be dropping you a line, shipping will probably be the biggest pain, maybe I might do a road trip, or convince my retired Dad to make a trip out here, one way or another I will figure something out.
Just an FYI for anyone out there, I have the side aluminum moldings for a long bed. I don't have the hardware, but I do have both sides trim from my previous 66. Not sure what they run pricewise from anywhere, I know they are hard to find, so if anyone is looking.... josephr@sti.net drop me a line.
I am thinking about painting the truck two tone white/blue and may add the chrome strips.
How hard would it be to install the clips and the chrome to this truck. I have another longbed with the chrome for all needed measurements and other reference points.
I have all the sidechrome and a few clips, you are welcome to it, just pay the shipping. The bed chrome is in great shape, the other could use some polishing.
Big Tim
I would welcome some spare pieces, no matter the condition. Most of the chrome on my red truck is in poor shape. Email me at "cdoyle at kdwlawtx.com" and maybe we can work out a parts swap if there are some parts you need.
Thanks
Chris Doyle
