any 5.8/auto bronco owners out there.
I calculated my mpg at 12.42 mpg. Are you coming up with the same numbers?
I want to buy a vehicle with better mpgs(bronco is a daily driver at this time), but I am comparing running costs (gas cost) to the cost of a new(er) vehicle + gas costs. I'll keep checking on smaller trucks for now, it sure would be nice driving them new, fancy rigs!
I get about 12mpg with my 5.8. It all depends on how many miles a week you drive... for example I drive about 300 miles per week. At 12 mpg I use 25 gallons at $3 per gallon is $75 a week for gas. If I bought a smaller truck and got 17mpg I would only save $22 a week on gas or $88 a month. To me, the payment for a new truck would be a lot more than the money saved.
That was my thoughts, I looked up city mpg for a 07 ranger and it is about 17 mpg. Not much of a savings, but I do not want to add wear and tear to my slowly aging Bronco.
I might look in to a, should I say it, Focus for my commute.
30 mpg looks good at 3.15 a gallon.
I'll keep looking.
How come our 351 beasts rival new v6s ( I am using posted mpg window sticker estimates- not scientific but thats all I got).
15-16 highway is awsome.
I do have about 500 pounds of tools and equipment and a carpool partner everyday.
I manage the 12.42 mpg. okay, but a 30 mpg- er would be nice. Focus?
New Rangers are 18 or so city. Mind you, I have to go with city numbers.
The main route for me goes straight through Honolulu. Bumper to Bumper both ways!
I think I will miss my 351 power when I get a new ride. My girlfriend has a 95 windstar....?
I do mostly if not al city driveing. and i get a lot less about 10mpg. mind you i am guestimateing becaue my fuel guage has never worked in my bronco. but to tell you the truth i don't mind the gas costs. A new f150 pluss insurance is alot more than a few extra bucks at the tank.
and besides i can't see myself in a car the dam things are so small. I have really been spoiled by the room that there is in a bronco.
City numbers can vary a lot more than hwy numbers, and they also reflect the traffic, not only the car.
That's for sure, traffic does vary and so does my driving style and habits, I just don't like buring more fuel than I have to. I guess I am weighing out how I would rather "use""burn" my money.
I am getting between 17-19MPG out of my 94 5.8 with 190K+ on her. But she is not completely stock, plus I live over 7000ft, I am sure that has some effect on it also. That is all county road driving, no stop signs, not even a light, cruising at 60mph.

I get about 9-11 mpg. I like the way you guys think. I guess most all bronco owners have a paid off vehical, I know mine is. I will never get rid of mine, so I am looking into getting a hog (Harley) that is going to be my next toy and gas saver.
I'm getting about 14.2 doing 70 on the highway. I'm running 38" tires and 4.88 gears. I have a thred started (millage) on all the things I've done and I 'm still not done. I compared buying a new car. but at the current prices, I can buy alot of gas and I dont have to drive something boring.

I feel the same way when harrassed about the gas mileage issue. They usually stop when I ask them about their car payment, which is something that I haven't had to make for 14 years. And, I can fix most of the stuff on it myself which saves a bundle. I guess I'm not getting rid of it for a while.

My 96 Bronco is paid for too. I went to a dealer to check out an Escape, the first thing they ask is, are you going to trade the Bronco in?... you all know the answer to that one!
I don't mind paying for gas, it is cheaper than a monthly payment and the gas for the new ride, but I just don't like buying all that extra gas.
To make the story short, I am going to run my Bronco for now, until I give my ranger an engine transplant.
Anybody coming to Hawai'i, you can give me a hand....LOL!
Aloha!
khadma, Why bother with the Ranger? I drive a company fleet Ranger in town with about 1,000 pounds in the back. V6, auto A/C. None of us get as high as 15 mpg and I drive like a little old lady. The ride and seat comfort are poor. However, the Honolulu traffic may be easier in the Ranger and you would not mind a NASCAR type fender crush as much. I finally got an all highway and no trailer reading on my Bronco 14.5 mpg at 70 mph. So my Bronco highway mpg is about the same as my Ranger in town.
