Tire advice/Ball joints

Hello everyone,

I need new tires for my 97 4x4 F150 and one of the local stores Farm&Fleet is having a sale on the Uniroyal Cross Country light truck radial tires. I mainly do highway driving nowadays along with some city driving. Do these tires have a pretty decent reputation? Ive always had "General" brand tires in the past.

My ford dealer also said that I need to have my ball joints replaced. They wanted over a $1000 for both the uppers and lowers. Im glad I did some research before I had the work done because the local farm&fleet auto service center gave me an estimate of $560 for both uppers and lowers and they are the kind with grease fittings which is good is it not? This is actually a pretty decent price I think? Their service center has a pretty good reputation.

Why is the ford dealer charging so much more for this work?

Thanks,

Mike Krivsky

No help for you on the tires. Visit www.rockauto.com for you ball joints. Get Moog joints, they have the grease fittings and carry a lifetime warrenty, and their rep. is very strong. For the upper joints you will have to replace the upper control arms cause the joint is pressed in. Moog part#K8722T and #K8724T are for the left and right upper control arms with ball joint included. These are $61.79 a piece. Moog part#K8695T are the lower ball joints and these are $27.79 a piece. Factor in a little shipping and for around $250 you can have all your parts. If you are planning on doing the job yourself, here is a link that will help you out some. The grease zerks are better than the sealed units that the dealership was going to sell you, but you have to keep up with them.

Thanks for the info. The place that gave me the quote for $560 on the lower and upper ball joints does use Moog apparently and they quoted about 260 dollars for the parts if I remember right.
