Angry What should I do now. (turbo question)

First of all I am asking you guys because you have been great in helping me with any of my questions.

So here is my problem:

I started to do the turbo on the truck WW swap when I felt what could have been the exhaust vanes being bent or chipped. So I pulled the turbo off and found that two of the vanes are now chipped. (good job on my part, LOL)

I remember that there was a post within the last few months about somthing similar but I can not do a search (computer can not display page).

I was wondering what my options are. If I can rebuild ,could I do it myself and if have to replace the turbo which way is the best route. (van turbo, BB etc..) This truck is my daily driver and I tow a 20' enclosed car trailer and a 24' camper. My mods are 4" turbo bcak exhaust, AFE stage 2 and a superchips programer with gauges. Fuel mods (hutch mod, lift pump and regulated system) are in the near future as well as a DP-tuner.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again,

Dirty

the exhaust wheel is chipped? that is the main part of the turbo there, it has to be completely disassembled to get that out. a new shaft and wheel (one piece) and a rebuild looks to be in order. do not run the truck until you get this fixed. IE do not put it back together and run it for a week until you get parts. this part spins in excess of 130,000 RPM, alot more frequently when working it such as pulling a trailer.

get some pics if you can so we can see how far the damage has gone.

I've used Turbo City, in Anaheim Ca., for my previous turbo parts. I'm not sure if they can get a replacement shaft/exhaust vane assem. The rebuild kit was around a hundred bucks, two bearings, o-rings and a seal. Usually you soak the housing in carb dip to clean off any coked on oil before assembly.

Thanks for the replies and info but fter thinking about it for a while today, I think that I will be upgrading to a BB turbo from Garrett. I think that with the other mods that I have planned I might as well do it now while the truck is apart.

Thanks again for all of your help.

P.S. I will try to get some pics up later.

Now that's the way to turn a mistake into a positive! Good call, I would have done the same thing. Might as well upgrade if your spending cash anyway!
