bigger fuel tanks

I have a 26gal tank and was wondering if you can retro a 40 gal tank from ford? I went to Tahoe this weekend and got poor mileage. I put in 23gal and went only 200 miles b4 I went empty (almost), had the hypertech in stage 1 towing, put in 23 more gal. and went......anyway total of 716 miles round trip 87 gal total, did get better towing performance and mileage in stage 2 so Im leaving it there for towing. So back to my question can I retro the ford 40 gal tank under there?

I'm not too sure about mounting the 38 gallon tank under a SWB truck. The mounting straps are a different distance apart.

However, you can google transferflow. We install a TON of their tanks in late-model Chevy 4 door shortbox trucks. They have the same miserable 26 gallon tank.

Which brings me to a theory I came up with. A woman had to have designed the 26 gallon tank for the CC SB trucks. I guess they figured that for long road trips, 300 or so miles was far enough between restroom breaks. HA HA.

Here's some good options: LINK

Our sponsor Xtremediesel.com carries some of the tanks too.
I've got a Handy toolbox/aux tank on the way: LINK

You got 8.2 mpg on your round trip. What were you towing, and are you sure you have a diesel? I tow a 12000 lb 5th wheel and get between 11 and 12 mpg with my 02 F250 PSD. You need better mpg, not a bigger tank!!

More seriously, here's a link to Northern Tool, which has about the best price for auxiliary tanks.
http://www.northerntool.com/
Click on Fuel Transfer, and you will find a whole bunch of auxiliary tanks on the next 5 pages. On the 3rd page there is a fitting selling for $69 which automatically transfers fuel from the auxiliary tank to your truck tank. This particular model is for GMC, and you need to contact the vendor for a model for your Ford. I have an email in to Northern tool now, and will post the reply when it comes.

LOL. That's pretty funny. FWIW I can easily put 32 gallons in my short box "29 Gallon" tank. Transfer Flow makes good stuff. I used to work next door to them at the Fleetwood Motor Home factory in Chico.
